Clubby banquets and surly waiters can be charming, but sometimes the steakhouse is best enjoyed in your own house. When you’re craving your favorite cut cooked to your liking with all the signature sides, these are the best steakhouses in Los Angeles that deliver exactly that.

Alexander’s Steakhouse (Pasadena)

Chef Florent Courriol, formerly of Michelin-starred Amber in Hong Kong and L’atelier de Joël Robuchon, is in the kitchen at Alexander’s, which opened in Pasadena in 2015. You’ll find upscale classic American steakhouse fare with hints of Japanese influence laced into the menu. Alexander’s Steakhouse features Certified Angus Beef, corn-fed from the midwest and dry-aged for 28 days, as well as A5 imported Wagyu beef.

Jar (Beverly Hills)

This modern chophouse in Beverly Grove has been specializing in retro dishes from chef Suzanne Tracht for two decades. The Prime filet and rib eye are masterfully executed as is the skirt steak, but don’t overlook the char siu pork chop or the pot roast, both of which were featured on The Food Network’s "The Best Thing I Ever Ate.”

STK Steakhouse (Westwood)

STK makes going to the steakhouse feel like going to the club, but the sumptuous food tastes just as good at home. Choose from a dozen steaks and don’t skimp on the accompaniments, like the three-cheese mac & cheese, Parmesan truffle fries, and grilled asparagus. The chocolate cake is downright decadent and highly shareable.

Bourbon Steak (Glendale)

Bourbon Steak in Glendale is celeb chef Michael Mina’s love letter to the American steakhouse experience infused with his arsenal of world flavors and flair for the dramatic. Four fine cuts of steak are exquisitely complemented by sides such as his acclaimed duck fat fries and the creamy potato puree. The Hudson Valley foie gras makes any steak unforgettable.

This Venice steakhouse has been a neighborhood staple since fall 2019, serving wood-grilled steaks, seafood, and chef-driven takes on a variety of vegetable-forward dishes with global flavors. There are steaks for one and large-format cuts, like the 32-ounce dry-aged Prime porterhouse. The wood-grilled flatbread with smoked honey and labneh is a not-to-be-missed starter.

BOA Steakhouse (Santa Monica)

BOA Steakhouse in beachy Santa Monica aims to seduce you, and it succeeds with steak served 13 different ways, including the signature 40-day dry-aged New York strip and A5 Japanese Wagyu. There’s a slew of starters and sides, like goat cheese baklava and truffle mac and cheese, plus a vast selection of seafood, including the unforgettable uni crab pasta.

Nick + Stef’s Steakhouse (DTLA)
